-Ross Adair smashes a blistering century off 58 balls
Patiala, 30 September
In a thrilling encounter in Abu Dhabi, Ireland pulled off a stunning upset, defeating South Africa by 10 runs in their second T20 match. Batting first, Ireland posted a formidable 195/6 in their 20 overs. In reply, South Africa could only manage 185/9. Ross Adair was named Player of the Match for his blistering century. This marks the first time Ireland has defeated South Africa in a T20 match.
South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, won the toss and opted to bowl. However, their decision backfired as Ireland openers Paul Stirling and Ross Adair gave their team a flying start. The duo put on a 137-run partnership off 13 overs.
Stirling scored a quickfire 52 off 31 balls, while Adair went on to smash a brilliant century. Adair’s knock of 100 came off just 58 balls, including 5 fours and 9 sixes. Although the middle order couldn’t quite keep up the momentum, Ireland managed to post a challenging total of 195.
Chasing a target of 196, South Africa got off to a good start with Reeza Hendricks and Ryan Rickelton putting on a 50-run partnership. However, after their dismissals, the middle order failed to fire. Matthew Breetzke was the only other batter to score a fifty. Mark Adair picked up 4 wickets for Ireland, while Graham Hume claimed 3.
