Chandigarh/SAS Nagar, October 4
In a significant blow to international drug trafficking, SAS Nagar Police have arrested two operatives and seized 1.5 kilograms of heroin, hidden in jackets. The bust has exposed a clever tactic used by the syndicate to smuggle drugs into Punjab.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav announced the operation on Friday, highlighting the state’s ongoing commitment to eradicating the drug menace.
The arrested individuals, identified as Sukhdeep Singh alias Raja and Krishan, were found in possession of the heroin and a white Hyundai Aura car used for smuggling.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the drug consignments were sourced from an Afghan national based in Delhi, exposing their connection to international drug cartels. The accused admitted to smuggling four consignments of heroin in the past two months, working in collaboration with a notorious drug smuggler from Kotkapura, Lakhwinder Singh.

Lakhwinder Singh, who is currently absconding and faces at least 10 cases under the NDPS Act, is believed to be the key figure behind the drug network. Police teams are actively pursuing his arrest.
DIG Ropar Range Nilambari Jagdale shared details of the operation, explaining that a reliable tip led to the interception of the vehicle near Dappar toll plaza in Lalru. Police teams led by DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar successfully apprehended the accused and recovered the narcotics.
SSP Deepak Pareek disclosed that Sukhdeep Singh had a previous criminal record, including a kidnapping case registered in 2020. After being released on bail in May 2024, he became involved in drug smuggling activities in July 2024.
The accused had rented accommodation in Sohana, SAS Nagar, to facilitate their drug smuggling operations.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Lalru in SAS Nagar.
