Fellow opener Qiana Joseph struggled and ended up bowled by Nonkululeko “Lefy” Mlaba for a mere 4 runs off 14 balls.
At the end of the powerplay, West Indies managed 31/2, with the seasoned duo of Deandra Dottin and Stafanie Taylor at the crease.
Kapp claimed Dottin’s wicket during her third over after the opener, who had hit three boundaries, fell for 13 runs off 11 balls. However, West Indies stabilized their innings through a 30-run partnership between Taylor and Shemaine Campbelle.
Mlaba’s skill proved crucial; she took two wickets in consecutive balls, removing Shemaine Campbelle (17) and Chinelle Henry (0), and later secured Aaliyah Alleyne’s wicket as well.
Mlaba concluded with exceptional figures of 4/29, a feat made more impressive given that Sune Luus was unable to bowl her full quota due to a hand injury.
