Punjab Police Boosts Cybercrime Response with Enhanced Helpline and Chatbot

The Punjab Police has taken significant steps to improve its response to cybercrime with the launch of an enhanced call center for their Cyber Helpline 1930 and the introduction of the Cyber Mittar Chatbot.

Improved Helpline for Faster Action:

  • Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav inaugurated the upgraded 1930 call center.
  • He personally made a trial call to ensure its effectiveness.
  • This helpline allows victims of cyber financial frauds to immediately freeze their money in the accused’s accounts.
  • Since its launch in September 2021, over 26,625 complaints have been filed.
  • The Cybercrime Cell has successfully frozen/lien marked funds in 17% of reported cases, totaling Rs 57 crore.

Cyber Mittar Chatbot: 24/7 Support for Cybercrime Queries

  • Launched alongside the enhanced helpline, this chatbot provides instant information on cybercrime prevention and reporting.

  • Available 24/7, eliminating time constraints associated with police stations.
  • Offers a safe and confidential space for reporting and seeking help.
  • Supports multiple languages, including Punjabi, to overcome language barriers.
  • Integration with WhatsApp expected within 15 days for wider reach.
