
Chandigarh, October 28
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Sanjiv Malhotra, a clerk in the Excise and Taxation Department in Kapurthala, for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 and demanding an additional Rs 20,000.
The Case:
- A complaint was lodged by Neeraj Sharma, a local businessman, alleging that the clerk demanded the bribe to settle a dispute related to a bill.
- The VB conducted a thorough investigation, including the recording of conversations between the complainant and the accused.
- Based on the evidence, a case was registered against the clerk under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Earlier Arrest:
Earlier, Inspector Jatinderpal Singh, who was involved in the same case, was arrested by the VB.
The VB’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption and ensure transparency in government departments have led to the arrest of several officials involved in bribery and other illegal activities.
