Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, Dr. Baljit Kaur, has successfully intervened to prevent a child marriage in Rupnagar district. Upon receiving information about a planned child marriage involving a 17-year-old boy, the Minister swiftly directed the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and the Child Marriage Prohibition Officer to take immediate action.

The DCPU team, in coordination with local authorities, visited the village and counseled the families involved. The wedding preparations were halted, and the child was encouraged to continue his education.
Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized the state government’s commitment to child welfare and urged citizens to report any instances of child marriage. She highlighted the negative consequences of child marriage and appealed to parents to prioritize their children’s education and well-being.
