Patiala, November 22 (Sports Desk): The first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia commenced in Perth. Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that proved to be detrimental. The entire Indian team was bundled out for a mere 150 runs.
India’s opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, was dismissed for a duck. KL Rahul, along with the debutant, Debabrata Paddikal, tried to steady the innings. However, Rahul was dismissed for 26 runs, while Paddikal could not contribute significantly. India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, once again managed only five runs. Rishabh Pant, along with Dhruv Jurel, tried to rebuild the innings, contributing 37 and 11 runs respectively. Washington Sundar could only manage four runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy played some good shots and top-scored with 41 runs, but found no support from the other end. Harshith Rana and captain Bumrah were dismissed for seven and eight runs respectively. Mohammed Siraj remained unbeaten without scoring any runs.

For Australia, Josh Hazlewood was the most successful bowler, picking up four wickets for 29 runs. Mitchell Starc took two wickets for 14 runs, while Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh claimed two wickets each, conceding 67 and 12 runs respectively. It remains to be seen how many wickets India can take on the first day and whether they can make a comeback.
