Punjab has become the first state in India to enact the Punjab State (Development & Promotion of Sports) Act, 2024. This significant step aims to promote sports development and ensure fair selection of players in the state.
Key Provisions of the Act:
- Fair Player Selection: The act mandates a transparent and fair selection process for players to represent districts and states.
- Financial Accountability: Sports associations will be required to maintain transparent financial records and publish annual statements.
- Sexual Harassment Prevention: The act establishes committees to address sexual harassment complaints in sports.
- Sports Calendar: Associations are required to prepare and publish annual sports calendars.
