The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has announced its first list of 784 candidates for the Urban Local Bodies elections slated for December 21. These elections will take place across 87 municipal corporations and committees, alongside 49 by-elections for vacant seats, covering a total of 977 wards.
Punjab AAP President Aman Arora, flanked by Working President and Batala MLA Amansher Singh Sharry Kalsi, State Secretary Gurdev Singh Lakhna, Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia, and Chairman Amandeep Singh Mohie, shared the announcement during a press conference.

Transparent and Inclusive Candidate Selection
Highlighting the party’s grassroots and transparent candidate selection process, Arora revealed that AAP received over 5,000 applications for 977 wards in just a few days, with some wards receiving 15–20 applications each. This overwhelming response, he said, underscores the public’s trust in AAP’s governance and policies.

“To ensure fairness, we implemented a rigorous screening process,” Arora explained. “Zonal and district-level committees comprising party leaders, MLAs, and office-bearers assessed applications based on feedback from workers, volunteers, and local leaders. This inclusive approach ensured transparency and consensus at every level.”
The first list includes candidates for 94 wards in Ludhiana, 56 in Patiala, and 74 in Amritsar, with discussions ongoing to finalize the remaining candidates.
Public Trust in AAP’s Governance
Aman Arora credited the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, for its developmental achievements over the past two and a half years. He cited the party’s strong performance in recent panchayat and by-elections as evidence of growing public confidence.
“The overwhelming response from ticket aspirants reflects AAP’s position as the people’s preferred party,” Arora stated. “Our track record of winning 80–85% of panchayat elections and by-elections shows the public’s trust in our transparent and development-focused governance.”
Preparing for Success
Arora also acknowledged the hard work of the party’s organizational team, including Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia, Sharry Kalsi, and other zonal and district leaders, in finalizing candidates despite tight deadlines from the Election Commission.
Expressing optimism about the upcoming elections, Arora emphasized that AAP is poised to replicate its success at the urban level. “We are committed to empowering urban areas with transparent governance and continued development,” he said, thanking party workers and volunteers for their unwavering support.
