Steve Smith’s century and a stellar partnership with Travis Head put Australia in a commanding position on Day 2 of the third Test against India at the Gabba.
After a rain-affected opening day, Australia resumed their innings on 28/0. While they lost early wickets to Jasprit Bumrah, Smith and Head formed a crucial partnership of 231 runs to stabilize the innings. Smith’s century, his first in 24 Test innings, was a testament to his class and resilience.
Smith praised Head’s exceptional batting performance, drawing parallels to their partnership in the 2023 World Test Championship Final. He highlighted Head’s ability to dominate bowlers and put pressure on the fielders with his aggressive strokeplay.
With a strong lead, Australia is well-placed to take control of the match and extend their dominance in the series. Australia finished the second day on 405 and three wickets in hand.
