Chandigarh/PATHANKOT, 21 December
The Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Pathankot has dismantled a gangster module, arresting two individuals and recovering two 9mm Glock pistols, four magazines, and 14 cartridges.
The arrested individuals are Sunil Kumar alias Ashu (resident of Rauwal, Batala) and Dilpreet Singh alias Dil (resident of Raimal, Batala). Sunil alias Ashu has a prior criminal record, including a case under the NDPS Act, and was recently released on bail from Gurdaspur Jail on February 27, 2024.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused received the weapons consignment from the Ajnala area of Amritsar, acting on instructions from their handlers. They were tasked with delivering the weapons to an unidentified party. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the weapons and identify other individuals involved in the network.

AIG CI Pathankot Sukhminder Singh Mann explained that the arrests followed a tip-off about Sunil Kumar and Dilpreet Singh’s connections to unknown gangsters and their recent acquisition of arms and ammunition. CI Pathankot teams set a trap and apprehended the two individuals, recovering the weapons and ammunition. Efforts are now focused on tracing previous consignments handled by the accused.
A case (FIR No. 71 dated 21.12.2024) has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The arrested individuals will be presented in court to obtain police remand.
