Chandigarh, January 8
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Prithvi Singh, a Panchayat Secretary posted at the BDPO Office in Moonak block, Sangrur district, while accepting a ₹20,000 bribe. Davinder Bansal, an Audit Inspector from the office of the Regional Deputy Director, Local Fund Audit, Patiala, has also been implicated in the case.
A VB spokesperson stated that the arrest followed a complaint filed by Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Maha Singh Wala village in Moonak and husband of the former Sarpanch.

Gurwinder Singh alleged that the Panchayat Secretary demanded ₹20,000 for auditing development work conducted by the Maha Singh Wala village panchayat during the previous term. He was also informed that this bribe would be shared with Audit Inspector Davinder Bansal.
Following a preliminary inquiry, the VB set a trap, leading to the Panchayat Secretary’s arrest while accepting the bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. A case has been registered against both Prithvi Singh and Davinder Bansal at the VB police station in Patiala range. The accused will be produced in court tomorrow, and further investigations are underway.
