Punjab Government Directs Officials to Combat Corruption or Face Consequences

Regular Feedback from MLAs and General Public to Ensure Accountability

Chandigarh, February 14

In a significant move to curb corruption, the Punjab government has issued strict directives to Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Station House Officers (SHOs) to eliminate corrupt practices in their respective jurisdictions. Failure to comply with these orders will result in strict action against the officials.

A government spokesperson announced today that the Punjab administration is committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service delivery. Highlighting the detrimental effects of corruption, the spokesperson emphasized that corrupt practices erode public trust, weaken institutions, and impede national progress. Therefore, addressing this issue remains a top priority for the state government.

The directive mandates that all field officers adopt stringent and effective measures to ensure corruption-free and citizen-friendly governance. Every officer is obligated to ensure that citizens do not face harassment or demands for financial favors when interacting with government officials at any level. The Punjab government has further stressed that public interactions with government offices should be seamless and hassle-free.

Additionally, public services must be delivered efficiently, courteously, and within the shortest possible timeframe. To achieve this, the government has introduced a robust feedback mechanism. Regular feedback will be collected from the general public as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) regarding the performance of DCs, SSPs, SDMs, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, SPs, DSPs, SHOs, and other field officers.

This feedback system will serve as a tool for evaluating the performance of officials and will directly influence rewards or disciplinary actions. The state government has urged officers to redouble their efforts to ensure honest, responsive, and efficient governance across Punjab.

By implementing these measures, the Punjab government aims to foster greater public confidence in its administrative machinery while promoting a culture of accountability and integrity among its officials.
