Vigilance Enquiry Initiated Against Officer Amid Corruption Allegations
Action Follows Punjab Government’s Recent Directive to Combat Corruption and Enhance Administrative Efficiency

Chandigarh, February 17:

In a significant move to combat corruption, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government has removed and suspended the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sri Muktsar Sahib following serious allegations of corrupt practices. This action underscores the government’s commitment to its policy of ‘zero tolerance towards corruption.’

A spokesperson for the Punjab Government disclosed today that this decision aligns with the recent instructions issued by the state government to all officers. These instructions emphasize responsive and accountable governance while ensuring strict action against corruption. As part of the new framework, feedback is being collected not only from the general public but also from elected representatives such as Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) regarding the performance of key officials, including Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, Superintendents of Police (SPs), Deputy SPs (DSPs), Station House Officers (SHOs), and other field officers.

The feedback mechanism is designed to serve as the basis for rewards or disciplinary actions against officials. In light of this system, the Punjab Government took swift action against the Deputy Commissioner of Sri Muktsar Sahib after receiving multiple complaints of corruption. A preliminary inquiry was conducted into the allegations, and based on its findings, the officer was immediately suspended and removed from his post. Additionally, a Vigilance enquiry has been ordered against him to investigate the matter further.

This decisive step reflects the Punjab Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service delivery. The government recognizes that corrupt practices erode public trust, weaken institutions, and impede the state’s progress. Therefore, combating corruption has been accorded top priority under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
