–Minister Urges Acceleration of Project Implementation During Meeting with Officials and Stakeholders
Chandigarh, February 19:
In a significant step towards ensuring the supply of clean canal water to residents of Ludhiana , Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh reviewed the progress of the ₹1550 crore Water Treatment Plant Project today. The project, a joint initiative supported by the World Bank , Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) , and the Punjab Government , aims to provide purified canal water to lakhs of households in the city.
During a special meeting held at the Municipal Bhavan , Dr. Ravjot Singh interacted with representatives from the implementing company and senior department officials. He directed them to expedite the project’s progress and ensure timely completion within the stipulated three-year timeframe.

Project Overview and Benefits
Dr. Ravjot Singh highlighted that the project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art Water Treatment Plant that will purify water sourced from the Sirhind Canal . Once operational, the treated water will be supplied to households through an extensive network of pipelines, benefiting lakhs of Ludhiana residents.
He explained that this initiative is a collaborative effort, with funding contributions as follows:
- 35% from the World Bank
- 35% from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)
- 30% from the Punjab Government
The minister emphasized that the project will not only address water quality issues but also improve the overall health and well-being of residents by providing access to clean and safe drinking water.

During the meeting, Dr. Ravjot Singh issued specific instructions to ensure smooth implementation of the project:
- Immediate Clearance of Roads: He directed officials to clear roads where pipelines are being laid to minimize inconvenience to city residents.
- Accelerated Work Progress: The minister stressed the need to expedite construction activities and maintain a strict timeline to avoid delays.
- Regular Reporting: He instructed the implementing agency to submit regular progress reports to the department for close monitoring.
