Uday Pratap Bawa, a talented chess player from Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala , played a pivotal role in securing the runners-up position (Team) for Punjabi University, Patiala at the North Zone Inter-University Chess (Men) Championship . The championship was held at Om Sterling Global University, Hisar , from February 20-23, 2025 .
The Punjabi University team delivered an impressive performance, accumulating 12 out of 14 points across seven rounds, finishing second in the competition. Delhi University clinched the first position with a perfect score of 14 points .

Uday Pratap, who also serves as the captain of the Modi College Chess Team , has been in stellar form this season. Earlier in February, he led his college team to secure 2nd position in the Punjabi University Inter-College Chess Championship , held at MGC, Fatehgarh Sahib , on February 4-5, 2025 . His exceptional skills earned him a spot in the Punjabi University Chess Team after rigorous selection trials conducted by the university.
To celebrate this remarkable achievement, Dr. Neeraj Goyal , Principal of Multani Mal Modi College, and Dr. Sumeet Kumar , Dean of Sports, honored Uday Pratap at a special ceremony held at the college. The Principal lauded Uday’s dedication and outstanding performance, which brought pride to the institution.
The college also acknowledged the relentless efforts of the sports faculty members who supported Uday’s journey. Special appreciation was extended to Dr. Nishan Singh (Head, Department of Physical Education), Dr. Harneet Singh , and Mandeep Kaur for their commitment to nurturing sporting talent. Additionally, Vinod Sharma , the Chess Team Coach, was commended for his mentorship and guidance, which played a crucial role in Uday’s success.
