  • ₹6.56-Crore Project to Cover Over 93,000 Class 10 Girl Students in Government Schools, Says Harjot Bains
  • District-Level Committees Formed to Conduct Psychometric Tests by March 31: School Education Minister

Chandigarh, March 2:

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering young women with valuable insights for personal growth and future career planning, the Punjab Government has introduced psychometric tests for girl students in government schools. These tests are designed to help class 10 girls discover their strengths, aptitudes, and interests, enabling them to make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.

Project Details and Scope

Disclosing the details of the initiative, Punjab School Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains stated that the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has allocated over ₹6.56 crore to all districts for conducting psychometric tests for 10th-grade girl students in government schools. The program aims to benefit 93,819 students , with the testing process set to be completed by March 31, 2025 .

To ensure seamless implementation, district-level committees have been established under the leadership of District Education Officers (Secondary) across Punjab. These committees will oversee the testing process, monitor operations, and ensure the smooth execution of the program within their respective districts.

Objective of the Initiative

The primary goal of this initiative is to analyze students’ mental abilities, interests, and personality traits, providing them with guidance to make well-informed career choices.

School Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains highlighted that many students face confusion after their 10th-grade board exams regarding their future career paths. This decision plays a critical role in determining the stream they choose for 11th grade. While private school students often receive career counselling, government school students lack access to such support, leaving them to rely on peer advice. Unfortunately, this often results in students selecting streams that do not align with their interests or abilities, ultimately limiting their career prospects.

Recognizing this gap, the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government has introduced psychometric tests to level the playing field for government school students. This initiative aims to equip them with opportunities comparable to those available in private schools, empowering them to choose careers with confidence and clarity. It will also enable students to pursue paths that align with their strengths and passions.

Expected Outcomes

Minister Harjot Bains emphasized that this initiative will not only boost students’ confidence and awareness about their future but will also enhance the overall quality and standards of education in government schools. By fostering a student-centric approach, the program seeks to create a generation of young women who are better prepared to contribute meaningfully to society and achieve their full potential.

This progressive step underscores the Punjab Government’s commitment to bridging educational disparities and ensuring equitable opportunities for all students, regardless of their background.
