In December 2022, Pant’s world turned upside down when his car crashed and burst into flames. Suffering severe injuries to his head, back, and feet—including a potentially career-ending right knee injury—he narrowly escaped losing a leg. “I thought my time here was over,” Pant later recalled, reflecting on the harrowing moment he was pulled from the wreckage.
Multiple surgeries and an arduous rehabilitation process followed, testing his physical and mental resilience. Yet, after 629 days away from competitive cricket, Pant returned in 2024 with unrelenting determination. His comeback Test match against Bangladesh saw him smash a match-defining century, matching MS Dhoni’s record for the most Test hundreds by an Indian wicketkeeper.
