Chandigarh, March 4:
Punjab Police’s ongoing campaign against drugs, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, entered its fourth day with intensified efforts. On Tuesday, police teams inspected 164 pharmaceutical shops across six districts (Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, Jalandhar Rural, Commissionerate Jalandhar, Kapurthala, and Rupnagar) to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent the illegal sale of habit-forming drugs.
In addition to pharmacy inspections, the police conducted cordon and search operations (CASOs) at 524 locations, leading to the arrest of 69 drug smugglers and the registration of 53 FIRs. This brings the total number of drug smugglers arrested to 472 in four days.
The raids resulted in the recovery of 1.5 kg of heroin, 100 grams of opium, 7610 intoxicant tablets/pills/injections, and ₹1.33 lakh in drug money.
These operations were conducted simultaneously in all 28 police districts following the directives of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.

CM Bhagwant Mann has set a three-month target for making Punjab drug-free, with a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema monitoring the progress.
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla reported that over 250 police teams, comprising over 1900 personnel and supervised by 101 gazetted officers, conducted the raids and checked 627 suspicious individuals. He affirmed that these operations will continue until drugs are eradicated from the state.
As part of the state government’s three-pronged strategy (Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention), Punjab Police is also actively involved in de-addiction and prevention efforts. On Tuesday, three individuals were persuaded to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, and 161 awareness events were organized across the state.
