The Orleans Masters 2025 badminton tournament saw impressive performances from Indian players on Wednesday, with HS Prannoy securing a hard-fought victory and young Ayush Shetty stealing the spotlight by defeating former world champion Loh Kean Yew. Kidambi Srikanth also advanced to the pre-quarterfinals, while Malvika Bansod retired mid-match due to injury, and Unnati Hooda fell to top seed An Se-young.
World No. 30 HS Prannoy marked his return to the BWF World Tour with a gritty win over Chinese Taipei’s Wang Tzu-wei, ranked 24th, at the Palais des Sports in France. The match lasted an hour and nine minutes, with Prannoy prevailing 21-11, 20-22, 21-9. This victory improved his head-to-head record against Wang to 7-2. Next up, Prannoy faces a tougher challenge against second seed Lin Chun-yi of Chinese Taipei, ranked world No. 14.
The day’s biggest upset came from world No. 48 Ayush Shetty, who stunned Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew—ranked 12th and a former world champion—in just 36 minutes. Shetty dominated the third-seeded player 21-17, 21-9 in the BWF Super 300 event and will now take on Hong Kong China’s Jason Gunawan in the pre-quarterfinals.
