Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday called upon girls to step forward and engage in politics to become active contributors to the decision-making process and drive essential societal change. Speaking at the annual convocation of the Government College for Girls in Ludhiana, he emphasized the need for greater female participation to foster an egalitarian society and strengthen democracy at its roots.
Addressing the audience, the Chief Minister highlighted that while girls have surpassed boys in numerous fields, politics remains largely male-dominated. “The time has come for women to excel in this arena as well,” he asserted, noting that their involvement is crucial for the broader interests of society and the state. He urged the students to vote thoughtfully, emphasizing that their choices could shape Punjab’s future by electing capable leaders to the state assembly and Parliament, thereby making the state a progressive and prosperous leader in the country.

Mann expressed pride in the achievements of girls across various domains, crediting educators for their role in shaping successful careers. Extending his best wishes to the graduating students, he expressed confidence in their potential to achieve greatness under the guidance of dynamic Principal Suman Lata.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, the Chief Minister cited significant appointments, including eight female Deputy Commissioners, six women Senior Superintendents of Police, and 18 Additional Deputy Commissioners—the highest number of women in such roles under any Punjab government. He also highlighted the administration’s milestone of providing over 52,000 merit-based government jobs to youth within 36 months, free of corruption or favoritism, expressing hope that these appointees would contribute to Punjab’s socio-economic growth.
Drawing inspiration from global examples of individuals from humble beginnings achieving greatness, Mann encouraged the girls to persevere and prove their mettle worldwide, assuring state support for their endeavors. Likening society to a vibrant bouquet of diverse flowers, he underscored Punjab’s rich legacy as the nation’s food bowl, its military valor, and its cultural heritage shaped by Gurus, saints, and martyrs who fought against injustice.
Taking a swipe at traditional political parties, the Chief Minister accused them of envying his rise from a common background and his relentless efforts for public welfare. “These leaders, who once thought ruling was their divine right, cannot accept that a common man is efficiently leading the state,” he said, adding that people are now seeing through their deceptive tactics.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Mann shared his connection with Ludhiana since the 1990s when he struggled as an artist. He advised the girls to view failures as stepping stones to success, urging them to remain humble and dedicated. “Hard work and resilience are key to a prosperous future,” he concluded, inspiring the students to contribute meaningfully to society.
