CHANDIGARH, March 26:
The relentless campaign against drugs, titled ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, initiated under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eliminate the drug menace from Punjab, marked its 26th consecutive day on Wednesday. Punjab Police conducted raids at 483 locations across the state, resulting in the arrest of 77 drug smugglers and the registration of 55 First Information Reports (FIRs). With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended in the past 26 days has surged to 4,114.
During the operation, police teams seized 1.1 kg of heroin, 301 grams of opium, and ₹13,570 in drug money from the possession of the arrested individuals.
The statewide operation was carried out simultaneously across all 28 police districts on the instructions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to work tirelessly toward making Punjab a drug-free state. To strengthen this mission, the Punjab government has established a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, chaired by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to oversee the ongoing war against drugs.
Providing operational insights, Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla revealed that more than 200 police teams, comprising over 1,300 personnel and supervised by 101 gazetted officers of SP/DSP rank, conducted the raids. These teams scrutinized 531 suspicious individuals during the day-long effort.
Special DGP Shukla emphasized that Punjab Police has developed a robust strategy to combat the drug problem, with such operations set to continue until the state is entirely free of this scourge.
He further highlighted the state government’s three-pronged approach—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to eradicate drugs. As part of the de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police successfully persuaded four individuals to opt for de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment. Additionally, under the prevention component, 114 awareness events were organized across the state to educate the public and curb drug abuse.
