Chandigarh/Jalandhar, April 12, 2025:
In a significant achievement in the mission to ensure a safe Punjab, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, with assistance from Central Agencies and Delhi Police, has arrested Saidul Ameen, the prime suspect in the grenade attack on BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s residence, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.
The attack occurred at Kalia’s home in Central Town, Jalandhar, on the night of April 7. Initial investigations pointed to a broader conspiracy by Pakistan’s ISI to disturb communal harmony in Punjab.
This follows the arrest of two local accomplices, Satish (alias Kaka or Lucky) from Bhargo Camp and Harry from Garha Road in Jalandhar, who provided logistical support to Ameen. The plot was orchestrated by Zeeshan Akhtar, a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Pakistan-based ISI-backed gangster Shahzad Bhatti. The involvement of Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) is also under investigation.
Speaking at a press conference in Jalandhar with Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, DGP Yadav revealed that Ameen, a resident of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended in Delhi after a multi-state manhunt. “This arrest showcases the effective collaboration between Punjab Police, Central Agencies, and Delhi Police in dismantling terror networks,” he said.

The investigation has also uncovered financial links to the attack, with Haryana-based suspect Abhijot, arrested by Haryana Police on Friday after a shootout in Kurukshetra, now under scrutiny. Jalandhar Police will seek his custody for further questioning, Yadav added.
DGP Yadav stated that investigations continue to identify handlers, financial supporters, and possible foreign connections tied to the attack.
A case (FIR No. 27, dated April 8, 2025) has been registered under sections 109, 324(3), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act at Police Station Division No. 3 in Jalandhar.
