PAYS HOMAGE TO BABA SAHEB AT STATE-LEVEL EVENT IN PATIALA

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to uplifting the marginalized and underprivileged, striving to realize the vision of Bharat Ratna Baba Sahib Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking at a state-level function commemorating Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, the Chief Minister hailed Baba Sahib as an eminent scholar, jurist, economist, social reformer, and statesman. He described Dr. Ambedkar as one of history’s most towering figures, noting that despite his humble origins, his monumental contributions have placed him among global icons.
Mann highlighted that the Indian Constitution reflects Dr. Ambedkar’s dedication, hard work, and foresight. He emphasized that Baba Sahib was not only a champion of the downtrodden but a leader for all humanity. Urging the audience to follow Ambedkar’s path, the Chief Minister said this would be the truest tribute to him, calling for collective efforts to build an egalitarian society that ensures justice and equality for all, transcending barriers of caste, color, and creed.
The Chief Minister underscored Dr. Ambedkar’s advocacy for democratic values across social, economic, and political spheres, promoting equal respect and status for everyone. Mann stressed that it is our collective responsibility to work toward this vision. He appealed to the people to embrace Ambedkar’s teachings, reject divisive notions of religion, caste, or creed, and foster a harmonious, equitable society.

In line with Baba Sahib’s philosophy, Mann emphasized that his government has prioritized education, launching transformative initiatives to uplift lives. He stated that education, not freebies or concessions, is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and social issues, elevating living standards. With six SC ministers in the cabinet, the first-ever reservation in the Advocate General’s office, and hassle-free SC scholarship distribution, the AAP government is bringing Ambedkar’s dreams to life.
Mann added that the state is revitalizing its health and education systems. Previously, government schools were a last resort, but now they are becoming a choice, with reforms underway. Schools of Eminence have been established to provide quality education, and the healthcare system is being upgraded similarly.
Condemning divisive forces attempting to disrupt Punjab’s peace and progress, the Chief Minister vowed zero tolerance for those vandalizing Dr. Ambedkar’s statues. He assured strict punishment for such acts, ensuring justice.
Encouraging girls to drive societal change through education, Mann noted their excellence across fields traditionally dominated by men. He stressed that women’s empowerment is vital for an equitable society and urged girls to participate in politics to strengthen governance with integrity.
Mann expressed pride in girls outperforming boys and encouraged them to pursue higher education to achieve greater heights. He affirmed that Punjab’s youth have immense potential, and his government is committed to providing them opportunities to succeed, likening them to planes ready for takeoff with the state as their launchpad.
Criticizing past governments for neglecting education, Mann pointed out that their leaders’ children studied in elite schools, leaving government institutions overlooked. In contrast, his government is building Schools of Eminence, training teachers at top institutes, and boosting admissions in government schools, sparking an education revolution in Punjab.
The Chief Minister announced that over 54,000 merit-based jobs have been provided to the youth, free of corruption or favoritism, making them partners in Punjab’s progress. He also highlighted the government’s crackdown on drugs, with plans to dismantle supply chains, arrest major traffickers, and seize their properties, calling for public support in this mission.
Mann shared a WhatsApp helpline (9779100200) for citizens to report drug-related activities anonymously, ensuring confidentiality. He also announced grand celebrations for the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, including statewide events and development of sites linked to the Guru.
Reflecting on his own student days, Mann connected with the audience, recalling performing on the same stage during his university years. He credited his education for his growth and urged students to leverage theirs for success.
