On the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains announced the renaming of the Government School of Eminence in Nangal as Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar School of Eminence, honoring the icon’s legacy of equality and education.
Inauguration and Upgrades
During a ceremony at the school, the Education Minister inaugurated:
- 18 Modernised Rooms: Upgraded at a cost of ₹1.24 crore.
- Furniture: Worth ₹51 lakh, enhancing student comfort.
- Interactive Panels: Valued at ₹7 lakh, enabling smart learning.
He also laid the foundation stone for an all-weather swimming pool, to be constructed at ₹4 crore, further transforming the school into a hub of modern excellence.
Tribute to Dr. Ambedkar
SHarjot Bains paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar’s lifelong struggle for equality and upliftment of marginalized communities. Quoting him, “Education is the milk of lioness; those who drink, roar!” the minister urged everyone to embrace Ambedkar’s vision of education as a tool for empowerment and work toward an inclusive society.

Punjab’s Education Revolution
Reaffirming the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government, Bains highlighted the transformation of Punjab’s government schools. Key upgrades include:
- Modern Facilities: Smart classrooms, high-speed Wi-Fi, clean drinking water, separate toilets for girls and boys, boundary walls, security guards, and campus managers.
- Student Transport: Ensuring accessibility for all.
- From Pitiful to Competitive: Once students sat on floors; now, government schools rival private institutions with modern furniture and technology.
Bains noted that Punjab’s Sikhya Kranti (Education Revolution) has become a national talking point.
Student Success Stories
The minister shared inspiring achievements:
- A 12th-grade student launched a T-shirt design business with ₹2,000 from the Business Blaster Program, now earning ₹50,000 monthly with a 40% profit margin.
- Amandeep Kaur, a student from the Nangal school, gained state-level recognition in Artificial Intelligence.
Nangal’s Development
Bains outlined plans to transform Nangal into a tourism hub, including:
- Construction of Nangal’s first flyover.
- Allocation of funds for regional growth.
He credited the progress to community support and divine blessings.
