Chandigarh, June 12,
Punjab Education Minister and Sri Anandpur Sahib MLA, S. Harjot Singh Bains, has instructed officials to accelerate ongoing flood protection works in the constituency, setting a completion deadline of June 30, 2025.
During a meeting with officials from the Water Resources, PWD, and other departments at his office on Thursday, Bains reviewed the progress of these initiatives. He disclosed that 112 flood protection projects, valued at Rs. 14 crore, are currently in progress. These projects include drain and choe cleaning, construction of revetments and studs, and the development of check dams and soak pits.
Highlighting the Punjab Government’s commitment under Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann to safeguard the region from monsoon floods, Bains emphasized that infrastructure is being significantly enhanced to improve water resource management in the area.

The ongoing works will benefit residents of villages such as Nakkian, Mehndali Khurd, Behrampur, Raipur Sahni, Chandpur, Mindhwan, Nikku Nangal, Jindwari, Tarapur, Bhallari, Ramgarh Bela, Paharpur, and Sadhewal, providing relief from seasonal flooding and better irrigation facilities.
Bains, who recently visited these villages, noted that the projects are being executed on a war footing in response to local demands. Reflecting on past devastation caused by flash floods, he stressed that the state government has prioritized flood protection measures in the region.
