Punjab Police Foils Pak-ISI-Backed BKI Terror Plot; Seizes AK-47, Hand Grenades in Gurdaspur
Chandigarh/Gurdaspur, July 9
In a significant operation aligned with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision to ensure a safe and secure Punjab, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) thwarted a major terror plot orchestrated by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative Harwinder Rinda. The police recovered a substantial cache of terrorist hardware from a forest area in Gurdaspur, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday.
Recovered Items
The seized consignment included:
-
Two AK-47 rifles with 16 live cartridges and two magazines.
-
Two P-86 hand grenades.
Details of the Operation
DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that preliminary investigations indicate the consignment was smuggled into India by Pakistani agencies and Harwinder Rinda as part of a planned conspiracy to execute multiple attacks across Punjab, aiming to disturb public peace. Acting on human intelligence, AGTF teams, under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban, successfully traced and recovered the hardware from a forest area in Gurdaspur before it could reach Rinda’s operatives. Further investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals intended to retrieve the consignment.
Involvement of Foreign-Based Terrorists
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) AGTF Gurmeet Chauhan shared that the probe has uncovered the involvement of foreign-based terrorists in this ISI-backed module. He added that additional arms consignments are likely to be recovered in the coming days.
