Asian Games champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav set a new world record in the compound mixed team qualifying event at the Archery World Cup 2025 Stage 4 in Madrid . The Indian duo achieved a combined score of 1431, surpassing the previous record of 1429 set by Denmark’s Tanja Gellenthien and Mathias Fullerton at the 2023 European Games.

Individual Performances

  • Rishabh Yadav: Scored a personal best of 716, leading the 85-athlete field in the men’s compound event from start to finish at Vallehermoso Stadium, securing the top seed for the individual rounds.
  • Jyothi Surekha Vennam: Shot a personal best of 715, topping the women’s compound qualifying round and earning the top seed.
  • World Record Context: The individual compound world record for both men and women stands at 718, with Rishabh falling just two points short.

Significance of the Achievement

Rishabh Yadav highlighted the importance of the record, stating, “It’s special because the compound mixed team is newly added to the Olympics, and we’ve been having such small achievements over time,” in an interview with World Archery. The compound mixed team event is set to debut at the LA 2028 Olympics, making this record a significant milestone for India.

The duo previously won the mixed team gold at Stage 1 of the Archery World Cup in Auburndale, USA, showcasing their consistency on the global stage.

India also secured top seedings in both the men’s and women’s team events:

  • Men’s Team: Rishabh Yadav (716), Priyansh (710), and Aman Saini (709) scored a combined 2135, outranking Türkiye (2127) and South Korea (2124).
  • Women’s Team: Jyothi Surekha Vennam (715), Parneet Kaur (702), and 16-year-old debutant Prithika Pradeep (699) achieved a total of 2116, ahead of Mexico (2108) and South Korea (2095).
