A VB spokesperson revealed that the arrests followed a complaint by a Gehri Mandi village resident. A technical team investigated the misuse of development funds received by the gram panchayat from 2013 to 2017. The probe found that during this period, the panchayat received Rs 49,21,658 but spent only Rs 17,37,900. The investigation revealed that Manjinder Singh, in collusion with then-gram panchayat secretary Karanjeet Singh and BDPO Lakhbir Singh, embezzled Rs 24,69,949.
