The Punjab Government rolled out a grand reception for World Champion cricketers Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali, celebrating their role in India’s historic first Women’s World Cup victory. The State Government, District Administration, and Sports Department welcomed the duo with festive fervor, marked by dhol beats, flower garlands, and enthusiastic cheers.

Representing Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, and MLA Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora led the felicitation, joined by District Planning Board Chairperson Prabhjot Kaur, Jaswant Kaur, and Councillor Sarbjeet Singh Samana. The vibrant atmosphere reflected Punjab’s pride in its sporting heroes.

Finance Minister Cheema lauded the cricketers, stating, “Our daughters have made Punjab and the entire nation proud on the global stage. Chief Minister Mann will soon honor Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur for their monumental achievement.” He highlighted the state’s new Sports Policy, offering cash awards and government jobs to athletes, positioning Punjab as India’s premier sporting hub.

MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer hailed the World Cup triumph as the dawn of a new revolution in women’s cricket, crediting teamwork and determination. He noted that players like Shubman Gill, Harmanpreet Kaur, Arshdeep Singh, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur, hailing from Punjab’s towns and villages, are inspiring the next generation.

Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur expressed gratitude to the Punjab Government and Chief Minister Mann for their support, saying the warm homecoming has motivated them to strive harder. They urged parents to encourage their daughters to chase their dreams and take pride in their achievements, while thanking their families, coaches, and the BCCI for their unwavering support.

The celebration culminated in a vibrant victory procession through Mohali’s streets, with Harleen and Amanjot waving to cheering crowds from open jeeps as flower petals rained down. Present were Amanjot’s father Bhupinder Singh, grandfather Ishar Singh, sister Kamaljot, and coach Nagesh Gupta, alongside Harleen’s parents B.S. Deol and Charanjit Kaur, and brother Manjot Singh.

Also in attendance were Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Dronacharya Awardee Jiwanjot Singh Teja (Director, PIS Training Centre), District Sports Officer Rupesh Kumar Begra, and numerous sports enthusiasts celebrating Punjab’s world champions.
