AI Revolution in Punjab Classrooms: Over 1,000 Govt School Students Shine at Landmark AI Hackathon

  • “AI is today’s language; Punjab Govt is preparing students to lead the technological revolution” — Harjot Bains
  • “This is not just a competition, but a movement to build future entrepreneurs” — Education Minister

Chandigarh, March 25,

In a groundbreaking initiative to integrate emerging technologies into school education, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) successfully organised an AI Hackathon as the grand finale of a first-of-its-kind pilot project aimed at promoting Artificial Intelligence skills among government school students.

The pilot project, launched in collaboration with the First Academy of Artificial Intelligence (FAAI) and Skilleareum, trained more than 1,000 students and 22 teachers from 22 government schools across Punjab.

Congratulating the participants and winners, Punjab’s School Education Minister Harjot Bains said, “This initiative was designed to foster innovation, technical skills, creativity and leadership among our young learners while encouraging them to become future entrepreneurs. Students underwent 12 weeks of live, interactive online classes conducted by AI experts.”

He added, “The Education Department plans to expand this AI skill development programme to more schools in the coming academic session. AI is no longer a subject of the future — it is the language of today. Through this hackathon, we are ensuring that students in Punjab’s government schools are not left behind in the global technological revolution.”

The Minister emphasised that the AI Hackathon would not only enhance technical skills but also build a culture of innovation among students. “The quality of projects and the enthusiasm shown today prove that when given the right platform and mentorship, our students can compete at the highest level. This is just the beginning,” he said.

PSEB Chairman Dr. Amarpal Singh informed that 20 schools participated in the final hackathon, with 60 students (three from each school) competing. Each team was given one hour to present their AI-based projects, which were judged by a panel of AI experts. The projects showcased innovation in technical development, video creation, business planning, and web development using modern AI tools.
