JGND PSOU Takes Key Step Towards Industry-Aligned Education with Employability Workshop

Patiala, April 16

Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), Patiala, inaugurated a three-day workshop on “Course Enhancement for Graduate Employability” to strengthen industry-aligned education and enhance the employability of its graduates.

The workshop, organised by the Skill and Employability Cell of the University in collaboration with the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), New Delhi, was held under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, JGND PSOU.

In his inaugural address, Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh emphasised the university’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically strong but also industry-ready and socially responsible. He congratulated the organising team for taking proactive steps towards introducing skill-based courses.

Delivering the special address online, Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, CEMCA, highlighted the gap between available skills and industry requirements as pointed out in the Economic Survey of Punjab. He noted that open universities like JGND PSOU are ideally positioned to bridge this gap through flexible and relevant academic programmes.

Dr. Pradeep K. Choudhury, Consultant, CEMCA and resource person for the workshop, outlined the objectives of the three-day programme, focusing on equipping students with competencies required in the modern workforce.

Prof. (Dr.) Baljit Singh Khehra, Registrar, JGND PSOU, spoke about the importance of integrating employability skills into university curricula. Dr. Amitoj Singh, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs), presented the formal vote of thanks and shared the university’s progress in launching apprenticeship-embedded courses.

The inaugural session was attended by Principals and Coordinators of various Regional Centres of the University. Dr. Balpreet Singh, Assistant Professor, JGND PSOU, is the coordinator of the workshop, which will continue till April 17, 2026.

The first day concluded with interactive sessions aimed at developing a roadmap for a more skill-centric and employment-oriented curriculum.
