Smriti Mandhana Makes History: Becomes India’s All-Time Leading T20I Run-Scorer

Patiala, April 23 (Sports desk)

Smriti Mandhana has etched her name into Indian cricket lore, surpassing Rohit Sharma to become the nation’s highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals—across both men’s and women’s cricket.

The milestone came during the opening fixture of the five-match T20I series against South Africa, when Mandhana nudged a single off Sune Luus. Though she finished with just 13 runs in the match, that boundary was enough to push her past Rohit’s tally of 4,231 runs and claim the top spot for India.

By the Numbers

  • Smriti Mandhana: 4,244 runs in 161 T20Is | Average: 30.31 | Strike Rate: 124.38
  • Rohit Sharma: 4,231 runs in 159 T20Is | Average: 32.05 | Strike Rate: 140.89 (retired from T20Is after India’s 2024 World Cup triumph)

Mandhana’s consistency shines through her record 33 half-centuries in women’s T20I cricket—the most by any player in the format. Her sole century came against England in 2025, a knock that underscored her ability to convert starts into match-defining innings.

Elite Company

With this achievement, Mandhana joins an exclusive club: she, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli remain the only Indian cricketers to surpass 4,000 runs in T20I cricket.

On the global stage, she now ranks third overall in combined men’s and women’s T20I run-scoring:

  1. Suzie Bates (New Zealand) – 4,717 runs
  2. Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 4,596 runs
  3. Smriti Mandhana (India) – 4,244 runs (and counting)
