Punjab Police Cracks Down on Illegal Hooters and Flashers, Checks Over 29,000 Vehicles

4,221 Challans Issued, 48 Vehicles Impounded; 465 Unauthorized Signalling Devices Removed

Chandigarh, June 6

Punjab Police has conducted a massive five-day statewide enforcement drive against the illegal use of hooters, sirens, and flashers on private vehicles, checking more than 29,000 vehicles across the state.

The special operation, launched on June 2, 2026, was carried out under the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav. The drive specifically targeted private vehicles unlawfully using signalling devices such as hooters, sirens, and flashers to violate traffic norms and project unauthorized authority on the roads.

Sharing details of the operation, Special DGP (Law and Order) Praveen Sinha emphasized that hooters and sirens are strictly reserved for emergency and essential service vehicles. He reiterated that private individuals are not permitted to use such devices under any circumstances.

During the five-day drive, Punjab Police teams checked a total of 29,324 vehicles across the state. As a result of the enforcement action, 52 hooters, 10 sirens, and 403 flashers were removed from unauthorized vehicles. Additionally, 4,221 traffic challans were issued, while 48 vehicles were impounded for violations.

Warning motorists against the misuse of signalling devices, Special DGP Praveen Sinha stated that the campaign will continue across Punjab and strict legal action will be taken against anyone found using unauthorized flashers, sirens, or hooters.

Meanwhile, under the ongoing anti-crime campaign “Gangstran Te Vaar”, now on Day 137, Punjab Police arrested 320 individuals and recovered eight weapons. Since the launch of the campaign, a total of 34,532 arrests have been made.

Police teams also initiated preventive action against 97 individuals, verified and released 13 persons after questioning, and arrested seven proclaimed offenders (POs) during the operation.
