Sangrur to Become Nursery for Asian, World & Olympic Champions: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann

SANGRUR, June 30

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant  Mann on Tuesday inaugurated an Olympic-standard swimming pool at War Heroes Stadium, Sangrur, built at a cost of ₹9.50 crore, and announced that Sangrur is set to become a nursery for Asian, World and Olympic champions.

Highlighting the Punjab Government’s focus on strengthening sports infrastructure, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government has increased the sports budget from less than ₹200 crore under previous governments to ₹1,790 crore. He added that Punjab has also achieved the opportunity to host the Asian Hockey Championship Trophy for the first time and will soon launch Cricket and Hockey Premier Leagues to promote sporting talent.

Sharing details of the project, CM Mann said that the newly inaugurated swimming pool at War Heroes Stadium is equipped with world-class facilities for athletes and coaches. The 50×21 metre pool has been constructed according to international and Olympic standards and will provide modern training facilities to players.

He said that the government is working to restore Punjab’s identity as the leading sports state of India. “This swimming pool is not just a building; it will become a nursery for future Olympians,” said CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The Chief Minister informed that the swimming pool has a depth ranging from 4.5 to 7.5 feet and a water-holding capacity of around 2.5 lakh litres. The facility includes modern changing rooms, shower areas, separate rooms for coaches, storage facilities and a modern gymnasium for athlete fitness and training.

He further said that a special mini swimming pool has also been created for children below seven years of age to encourage youngsters to take interest in swimming from an early age.

CM Mann said the pool has been developed using advanced Myrtha RenovAction and Classic Modular System technology, along with laminated PVC and stainless-steel panels. A European-standard filtration and disinfection system has also been installed to ensure clean and safe water for athletes.

Appealing to parents, the Chief Minister encouraged them to motivate children towards sports and assured that the Punjab Government will provide complete support, facilities and financial assistance for players.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to sports development, CM Mann said that 3,100 stadiums are being constructed across Punjab to promote sports culture and keep youth away from drugs.

He added that athletes winning international medals will receive financial rewards, including ₹1 crore for a gold medal, ₹75 lakh for silver and ₹50 lakh for bronze.

Cabinet Ministers Dr. Ravjot and Tarunpreet Singh Sond were also present during the inauguration ceremony.
