Chandigarh, July 14
The Punjab Government is undertaking tourism and heritage infrastructure projects worth more than ₹62 crore across the state to promote tourism, preserve Punjab’s rich cultural heritage and create new opportunities for economic growth.
Reviewing the progress of these projects, Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond directed all executing agencies to ensure their timely completion while maintaining the highest quality standards. He said the projects would strengthen tourism infrastructure, conserve historical and cultural landmarks, and generate employment while boosting local economies.
Chairing a review meeting with senior officials of the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, the Minister emphasized that these initiatives reflect the vision of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Government to promote sustainable tourism while safeguarding Punjab’s unique cultural identity.

Sond said the government is making continuous investments to showcase Punjab’s historical, religious and cultural heritage to visitors from across India and abroad. These projects, he added, will improve visitor experiences while creating new economic and employment opportunities.
During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the progress of several major projects, including:
- ₹11 crore Heritage Welcome Gate: A grand heritage gateway at Punjab’s entrance to provide visitors with a memorable welcome.
- ₹8.30 crore Malout Craft Corridor (Sri Muktsar Sahib): Designed to promote Punjab’s traditional crafts, support local artisans and create a vibrant cultural tourism destination.
- ₹14.30 crore Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Project (Sunam, Sangrur): Includes the construction of a modern auditorium, expansion of the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Museum and a memorial entrance gate to honour the legendary freedom fighter.
- ₹9 crore Heritage Street Development at Gurdwara Tutti Gandi Sahib (Sri Muktsar Sahib): Aimed at enhancing the spiritual and tourism experience through beautification and improved visitor facilities.
- ₹20 crore Ecotourism Experience at Kanjli Wetlands (Kapurthala): Includes the development, operation and maintenance of eco-tourism facilities for five years while ensuring conservation of the ecologically significant wetland.
Stressing the importance of timely execution, Sond instructed officials to closely monitor the progress of each project, address bottlenecks without delay and maintain high standards of construction. He said every project should be completed within the stipulated timeframe so that people can benefit from world-class tourism infrastructure at the earliest.
The review meeting was attended by Secretary, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department Kumar Amit, Director Sanjeev Tiwari, and other senior officials.
