Dhruv Jurel’s magnificent century
The biggest highlight of the day was Dhruv Jurel’s unbeaten 115, his second Test century. He reached the landmark in 171 balls and finished with 9 fours and 2 sixes. Jurel remained unbeaten when India declared at 503/9.
Jurel’s innings was particularly important because India lost wickets around him, but he remained composed and guided the lower order towards a huge total.

Pant-Jurel partnership
After India resumed the day at 300/5, Rishabh Pant joined Jurel and the pair launched an aggressive counter-attack. They added 112 runs for the seventh wicket, giving India the momentum needed to push beyond 400.
Pant contributed a valuable 63 off 89 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Sri Lanka suffer early blows
After India declared, Sri Lanka’s first innings got off to a disastrous start.
- Lahiru Udara was dismissed for 1, caught at third slip by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Prasidh Krishna.
- Prabath Jayasuriya was then trapped LBW for 2 by Manav Suthar.
- Sri Lanka finished the day at 8/2 after just 3 overs.
- Kamil Mishara was unbeaten on 5 at stumps.
India therefore ended Day 2 in a hugely commanding position, with Sri Lanka 495 runs behind and only eight wickets remaining.
Rain interrupts play
Rain and bad light repeatedly disrupted the second day, limiting India’s bowling opportunity after the declaration. Despite having only three overs to work with, India’s bowlers managed to strike twice.
