Chandigarh, October 10

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurbaksh Singh, posted at Sadar Police Station, Faridkot, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹80,000.

Disclosing this information today, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of village Ghugiana in Faridkot district.

According to the complaint, ASI Gurbaksh Singh had allegedly already accepted ₹40,000 from the complainant in exchange for cancelling a case registered against him. The accused subsequently demanded an additional bribe of ₹80,000 to ensure that the case was dropped.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Ferozepur Range and reported the matter.

The spokesperson further stated that a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station in Ferozepur.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
