Aam Aadmi Party Responds to Sunil Jakhar’s Statement: “Jakhar Sheds Crocodile Tears on Punjab Issues”

Chandigarh, July 12

Reacting to the recent comments by Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, senior leader and spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Neel Garg, accused Jakhar of misleading the public on law and order issues. Garg emphasized that during the Akali-BJP government from 2007 to 2017, Punjab saw a rise in drug trafficking and gangster activities, a situation that still lingers.

Neel Garg criticized Jakhar for his lack of genuine concern, stating, “Jakhar sheds crocodile tears on every issue related to Punjab.” He recalled that during the 2017 assembly elections, Captain Amarinder Singh, alongside Congress leaders, had vowed on Gutka Sahib to eradicate drugs within four weeks. Jakhar, despite being head of the party during Captain’s tenure, remained silent on drug abuse.

Contrasting the previous administrations with the current government, Garg highlighted the Mann government’s efforts to tackle drug smugglers and gangsters. “So far, over 32,000 drug smugglers have been arrested and 25,000 cases registered,” he said. Garg also cited NCRB data, showing that Punjab’s law and order situation is better than neighboring states, attributing this improvement to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s serious approach.

Garg also addressed Jakhar’s stance on farmers, criticizing him for not advocating for farmers’ issues before the central government. “Claiming to be farmer-friendly isn’t enough; one must work for it. If Sunil Jakhar truly supports farmers, he should raise agricultural issues with Prime Minister Modi and seek solutions,” Garg asserted.

He pointed out that in 2013, before becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi promised to waive farmers’ debts and implement MSP as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission. However, Modi reneged on these promises, even attempting to impose anti-farmer laws that resulted in the deaths of over 750 farmers. “Till date, PM Modi has not expressed grief over these deaths,” Garg noted.

Garg concluded by stating that the BJP has no future in Punjab, as people are well aware of its anti-farmer and pro-capitalist nature. “This is why BJP has been wiped out from Punjab,” he said, underscoring that the party has never worked for the welfare of farmers.
