India’s Abhishek Sharma surged to the top of the ICC T20I batters’ rankings on Wednesday, overtaking Australia’s Travis Head to secure the No. 1 position.
The 24-year-old left-hander surpassed Head, who had held the top spot for over a year after overtaking Suryakumar Yadav during the previous T20 World Cup. Abhishek announced his arrival on the international stage with a stunning 100 off 47 balls in just his second T20I match for India last year.
Since securing a spot in India’s T20I top order, Abhishek has delivered consistently. In his latest outing for the Men in Blue, he smashed a remarkable 135 off 54 balls against England earlier this year, marking the highest individual T20I score by an Indian and the second-fastest century by an Indian in the format, reaching his hundred in just 37 balls—two short of Rohit Sharma’s record.
Abhishek becomes only the third Indian batter to claim the No. 1 T20I batting rank, following Virat Kohli and current T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently ranked sixth. Tilak Varma holds the third position in the batting rankings.

With 535 runs in 17 T20I matches at an average of 33.43 and an impressive strike rate of 193.84, Abhishek has made a strong mark early in his career.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya retains the top spot in the ICC T20I all-rounder rankings. Among Indian bowlers, Varun Chakaravarthy leads at third place, followed by Ravi Bishnoi in seventh and Arshdeep Singh in tenth in the ICC T20I bowling rankings.
