Afghanistan Creates History, Defeats South Africa by a Record Margin

Afghanistan has pulled off a stunning upset, defeating South Africa in the second ODI to clinch the series. This victory also marks their largest margin of victory in One Day Internationals.

Led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, the Afghan cricket team created history by comprehensively defeating South Africa in the second ODI, securing an unbeatable lead in the series. The three-match ODI series between Afghanistan and South Africa is being played in the UAE. Afghanistan had already made history by securing their first-ever international win against South Africa in the first ODI.

Afghanistan triumphed by a massive 177 runs in the second ODI played in Sharjah, making it their biggest win in ODI history.

Batting first after winning the toss, Afghanistan posted a formidable total of 311/4 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to a century from Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Gurbaz scored a brilliant 105 off 110 balls, including 10 fours and 3 sixes, for his seventh ODI century. Rahmat Shah (50) and Azmatullah Omarzai (86) also contributed significantly with half-centuries.

Chasing a target of 312, South Africa crumbled under the pressure of Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling attack, getting bowled out for a paltry 134 in 34.2 overs. No batsman could reach the 40-run mark, and five batters were dismissed for single-digit scores. South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, was their top scorer with 38 runs.

For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan, who was celebrating his birthday, was the star performer with the ball. He claimed five wickets for just 19 runs. Nangyalia Kharote also contributed with four wickets. Rashid Khan was adjudged the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
