Chandigarh, September 14
The Punjab government has transferred Basant Garg, IAS, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL), with immediate effect.
The transfer comes amid concerns over the prevailing power situation in the state. According to reports, the government has expressed dissatisfaction with the PSPCL leadership over the handling of the ongoing power crisis and alleged lapses that have brought disrepute to the administration.

With this development, Basant Garg has faced a fate similar to his predecessor, Ajoy Sinha, IAS, who was also removed from the post after allegedly overlooking government directions. Ajoy Sinha was subsequently given another assignment.
The latest administrative reshuffle is being seen as a significant step by the Punjab government to address the power crisis, strengthen accountability and improve the overall functioning of the state’s power utilities.
