Amritsar Police Bust Illegal Arms Smuggling Network; Three Arrested with Six Foreign Pistols

Chandigarh/Amritsar, June 7,

In a major breakthrough in the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a safer state under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Border Range Amritsar dismantled an illegal arms smuggling network, arresting three associates of the mastermind, Jugraj Singh, who is currently in jail. The police recovered six modern foreign-made pistols from their possession, as announced by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.

The arrested individuals were identified as Rajan from Bhagtanwala Gate, Amritsar; Paramjeet Singh from Ghannupur, Heer Hall, Amritsar; and Dinesh Kumar from Narayangarh, Amritsar.

The seized weapons include two Glock 19X pistols (made in Austria), two .30 bore pistols (made in Italy), one .30 bore Star Mark pistol, and one Beretta .30 bore pistol (made in Italy). Additionally, the police confiscated a numberless Yamaha R15 motorcycle and a numberless Honda Granvia scooter used by the accused for transporting the consignment.

DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that preliminary investigations indicate the arrested individuals were operating under the directions of Jugraj Singh from Mode village, Amritsar, who is lodged in Sri Goindwal Sahib Central Jail. Jugraj was running the smuggling racket from inside the jail through his lawyer’s assistant, Rajan. Facing multiple criminal cases under the NDPS and Arms Acts, Jugraj was in contact with Pakistani drug smugglers while incarcerated.

Yadav added that the weapons were smuggled across the border and were likely intended for distribution to various criminal elements in Punjab. Further investigations are underway to trace forward and backward linkages in the case.

Sharing operation details, ADGP ANTF Neelabh Kishore stated that the ANTF Border Range Amritsar team received credible intelligence about the involvement of the three accused in acquiring weapons on Jugraj Singh’s instructions. Acting swiftly, police teams led by Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh arrested the accused near Khalsa College in Amritsar during a covert operation and recovered the arms consignment.

A case has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act on June 6, 2025, as FIR No. 152 at the ANTF Police
