Wrestler Bajrang Punia has joined the Congress party ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections and has been entrusted with a significant responsibility. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the appointment of Bajrang Punia as the Working President of the All India Kisan Congress with immediate effect.
Bajrang Punia and fellow wrestler Vinesh Phogat officially joined the Congress party. They met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence at 10, Rajaji Marg. Following the meeting, they were welcomed into the party in the presence of Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, AICC General Secretary in charge of Haryana, Deepak Babaria, Haryana Congress Chief Uday Bhan, and Congress media and publicity head Pawan Khera.

After joining Congress, Vinesh Phogat commented that while the BJP supported Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Congress stood by the wrestlers who were protesting and being mistreated on the streets of Delhi.
Bajrang Punia, a bronze medalist from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, made the decision to join Congress just a month before the Haryana Assembly elections. Bajrang had previously stated that it didn’t matter who stood with him because once he set his mind to something, no one could defeat him. Having achieved numerous milestones on the wrestling mat, Bajrang has also faced challenges outside the arena.
