The Congress has announced its candidates for the upcoming by-elections to four vacant Punjab Assembly seats. The bypolls, scheduled for November 13, will be held in the constituencies of Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, Gidderbaha, and Barnala. The names of the candidates were revealed in an official press release on Tuesday.
For the Gidderbaha seat, the party has fielded Amrita Warring, wife of former MLA Raja Singh Warring. The full list of candidates is as follows:
- Dera Baba Nanak – Jatinder Kaur
- Chabbewal (SC) – Ranjit Kumar
- Gidderbaha – Amrita Warring
- Barnala – Kuldeep Singh Dhillion
The bypolls were necessitated after the sitting MLAs from these constituencies were elected to the Lok Sabha. Gidderbaha’s seat became vacant after Congress MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring won the Ludhiana seat in the 2024 parliamentary elections. Similarly, the Barnala seat was vacated when AAP MLA Gurmeet Singh Hayer was elected from Sangrur. The Dera Baba Nanak seat was vacated after Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa won the Gurdaspur parliamentary seat.
Vote counting for these by-elections will take place on November 23.
