Darshan Singh, who retired from the Punjab Education Department on May 31 exemplifies these qualities. Over nearly 25 years, he has left an indelible mark on society through his impeccable and devoted service as an educator.
Early Life and Education
Born on May 3, 1967, in the village of Dhanetha, Patiala district, to the late Swaran Singh and Swaran Kaur, Darshan Singh completed his primary education at his village’s high school. He pursued higher education with zeal, earning a graduation degree from Public College Samana, followed by an M.A. in Economics, B.Ed., M.Ed., and LL.B. from Punjabi University, Patiala. Additionally, he obtained an M.A. in English from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning.
Family and Personal Life
Darshan Singh married Rupinder Kaur on January 3, 1999, and the couple has been blessed with two children. Their daughter, Dr. Ramanik Kaur, is an MBBS doctor, while their son, Jobanpreet Singh, holds a B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering from Chitkara University, Patiala. Currently, Mrs. Rupinder Kaur serves as the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) in Machhiwara, Ludhiana district.
A Distinguished Career in Education
Darshan Singh began his government service on September 8, 2000, as an S.S. Master at Government Senior Secondary School, Khanouri Kalan, Sangrur district. From 2001 to 2007, he served at Government Senior Secondary School, Gazipur, before taking on the role of Legal Advisor and District Guidance Counselor at the office of the District Education Officer (S), Patiala, from 2007 to 2012. On December 26, 2012, following a promotion, he joined as an English Lecturer at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines, Patiala, where he continued to inspire students until his retirement.

A Memorable Farewell
On May 31, 2025, Darshan Singh was honored by the Punjab School Education Department during a heartfelt farewell ceremony at Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Civil Lines, Patiala. Mrs. Seema Uppal, Principal of the school, led the event, paying tribute to his exceptional contributions. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Dr. Surinder Singh Chadha, Chairman of Scholar Fields Public School, Patiala; Swaran Singh Sodhi, Director of Scholar Fields Public School; Chandandeep Kaur, Principal; Dr. Ramanik Kaur; Manjeet Singh Chahal, former Information and Public Relations Officer, Powercom; Engineer Jobanpreet Singh; Rupinder Kaur, BDPO Machhiwara; Gagan Deep Kaur, District Science Coordinator; Jaswinder Singh; Pushpinder Kaur; and Rajinder Singh, Lecturer in Punjabi. They presented Darshan Singh with vibrant bouquets and gifts, wishing him a fulfilling retirement and a bright future.
