Model Code of Conduct comes into force immediately

The State Election Commission Punjab has announced that general elections for members of 23 Zila Parishads (357 zones) and 154 Panchayat Samitis (2,863 zones) will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri released the complete schedule:
Key Dates
- Nomination filing: 1–4 December 2025 (11 am – 3 pm)
- Scrutiny of nominations: 5 December 2025
- Last date for withdrawal: 6 December 2025 (till 3 pm)
- Polling: 14 December 2025 (8 am – 4 pm) – via ballot papers
- Counting of votes: 17 December 2025
A total of 1.36 crore voters (71.65 lakh male, 64.39 lakh female, 181 others) will cast their votes at 19,181 polling booths across rural Punjab.
Expenditure Limits
- Zila Parishad member: ₹2.55 lakh
- Panchayat Samiti member: ₹1.10 lakh
Around 96,000 personnel will be deployed on election duty, with IAS/Senior PCS officers appointed as District Observers to ensure free and fair polls.

With the announcement of the schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect across all Gram Panchayat areas falling under these Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti zones and will remain in force until the completion of the election process.
