The 12th Annual Athletic Meet at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, concluded on a highly enthusiastic note, filled with energy, sportsmanship, and vibrant participation.
More than 500 male and female athletes from across the University’s 20 departments competed fiercely in a range of track and field events. The opening ceremony was a grand spectacle, featuring an impressive march-past by students that set an inspiring tone for the day. The entire campus buzzed with the genuine spirit of competition and camaraderie.
Advocate Amardeep Singh Dharni, Trustee Member and chief guest for the inauguration, addressed the participants and audience. He stressed that sports extend beyond physical fitness, serving as a powerful tool for building character, instilling discipline, and nurturing leadership skills. He encouraged students to integrate sports into their academic lives for well-rounded personal growth.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh reaffirmed the University’s dedication to holistic student development. He highlighted how sports cultivate essential qualities such as teamwork, commitment, and a healthy competitive edge—attributes crucial for success in all spheres of life.
The event was elevated by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Lakhvir Singh (Principal, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College), Registrar Dr. Tejbir Singh, Dean Academic Affairs Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Sikander Singh, Dean Research Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Director IQAC Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal, Deputy Registrar Finance S. Jagjit Singh, Deputy Registrar Dr. Balwinder Kaur, Dean Education and Information Sciences Dr. Harneet Billing, and Dr. V.S. Bhullar (Head, Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology).
Competitions included thrilling events like the 100m, 400m, and 800m races, long jump, shot put, and 4×100m relays in both boys’ and girls’ categories. Athletes showcased exceptional skill, discipline, and passion, fueled by an energetic crowd that amplified the excitement. The contests remained intensely competitive, upholding top-notch standards throughout.

In the girls’ category, Urvi Jog from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology earned the title of Best Athlete. In the boys’ category, Varinder Singh from the Punjabi Department claimed the honor for his stellar performances. The Department of Physical Education dominated overall, securing the Overall Trophy through their thorough preparation and commitment. Adding a light-hearted touch, fun events were organized for faculty members, who participated with great enthusiasm.
The prize distribution ceremony featured Arjuna Awardee S. Dilpreet Singh Ball (noted hockey player) and Shri Varun Kumar Ji as chief guests. They lauded the athletes’ zeal, discipline, and true sportsmanship, noting that sports offer young people platforms to refine their abilities and gain recognition at national and international stages. They also appreciated the University’s administration for its consistent promotion of sports culture.
Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief guests in his concluding remarks.
