Anindita Mitra, a senior IAS officer, Secretary of the Cooperative Department, and MD of Punjab State Cooperative Bank, has arrived in Patiala as the election observer appointed by the Punjab State Election Commission for the upcoming Patiala Municipal Corporation elections. Scheduled for December 21, the elections are being conducted under strict impartiality and transparency.
Mitra held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav, SSP Dr. Nanak Singh, and other officials to review election preparations. She emphasized the need to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections by strictly adhering to the guidelines and rules issued by the State Election Commission. She directed the election staff, including returning officers, to execute their responsibilities with utmost dedication and honesty.

Addressing the sensitivity of polling booths, Mitra reviewed the arrangements and instructed swift action on any complaints. She also inspected the strong rooms for EVMs and other arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the election process.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav welcomed Mitra and briefed her about the strict implementation of the election code of conduct. She assured that all arrangements, including rehearsals for election staff and voter accessibility, are in place to ensure a seamless process.

SSP Dr. Nanak Singh presented a comprehensive report on the security measures being implemented. Officials such as ADC (Rural Development) Anuprita Johal, ADC (Urban Development) Isha Singhal, SP Harbant Kaur, and Angad Singh Sohi, Manager of the District Industries Center, were also present during the visit.
