• Animal Husbandry Minister opens In-Patient Department (IPD) ward at Government Veterinary Polyclinic in Badal village
• Services include surgeries, post-operative care, lab tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds

Chandigarh/Lambi, April 17

Punjab’s Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries Minister, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, inaugurated a state-of-the-art In-Patient Department (IPD) ward at the Government Veterinary Polyclinic in Badal village, Sri Muktsar Sahib, on Thursday. This launch marks the introduction of IPD services for livestock at six veterinary polyclinics across Punjab, ensuring advanced healthcare for pets and animals in comfortable settings.

Speaking at the event, Khudian announced that IPD services are now operational at polyclinics in Patiala, Amritsar, Sangrur, Gurdaspur, and Ludhiana, equipped with modern facilities. These polyclinics will provide comprehensive services, including acute illness management, surgeries, post-operative care, routine check-ups, and diagnostics such as lab tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds.

Khudian emphasized that the new IPD wards address longstanding challenges faced by livestock owners, particularly post-surgical care. Previously, the absence of indoor facilities increased risks like damaged stitches, toxaemia, and animal mortality. The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, has established these IPD wards to ensure animals receive specialized care, including observation and rehabilitation, until fully recovered.

The Minister urged livestock owners to vaccinate their animals against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), noting that the state has launched a drive to immunize over 65 lakh livestock by May 2025, with over 1,600 teams deployed. He also encouraged the use of sex-sorted semen for insemination to improve germ plasm and reduce stray animal issues.

Dr. G.S. Bedi, Director of Animal Husbandry Punjab, outlined additional departmental initiatives under Principal Secretary Rahul Bhandari, including anti-snake venom treatment in 97 tehsils and 22 polyclinics, free deworming under the ASCAD scheme, free anti-tetanus injections for equines, activation of the bovine breeding authority, and registration of pet shops and breeders. He encouraged the public to take full advantage of these welfare schemes.
